UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl containing multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
