This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
