The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
