Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
