A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
