Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
