The original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner Unilever prevented the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the business with Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor within a personal collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company

The recent announcement escalates the ongoing conflict among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that the parent company along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur stated via an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for public suggestions regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians due to its colors, that mirror those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand which originally created several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated how he will develop other ice cream flavors that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy was compromised following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
