Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances so bad.”

Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
