American Military Targeted a 'Major Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Lacking Providing Specifics.

Ex-President Donald Trump has asserted that American military assets hit a "large facility" in Venezuela last week. But, the former president did not specify the precise nature or location of the strike, and there has been no further comment from his administration.

Vague Remarks Offered In a Talk Interview

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you read – they have a large facility, where the vessels originate. Two nights ago, we knocked that out. So we struck them with significant force," Trump reportedly informed GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Significance of a Verified Attack

Should a American strike were to be confirmed, it would constitute the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense began a buildup of US strike forces in the Caribbean region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration claims operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

This stated purpose of the military buildup has transformed into a blockade aimed at disrupting the country's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Video and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks stated that American military units are prepared to escalate the military campaign by striking objectives within Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require legislative authorization.

Video footage posted online on 24 December appeared to show an explosion said to be from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. But, the footage or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An administration official reportedly told a news network that the president was describing a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Response and Current Military Situation

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike the former president described. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela concerning it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a stance some have termed a sea blockade – marks the largest naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Officials have refrained from describing the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 personnel are deployed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to uphold existing economic sanctions.
